Mystery Train

Did anyone notice how the paintings of Elvis began to look bad from one room to the next?

Tinisia, I noticed EXACTLY that!! I wonder what that has to do with anything? Any sense of why the filmmaker might have made that choice?

I think it deals with the particular characters and how each one viewed Elivs. The Japanese girl idolized Elivis; his picture in her room was decent. The two women in the other room had both encountered crazy men; so Elvis picture resembled that and even his ghost was acting like he didn't know where he was. The men in the last room really had no care for Elvis at all. They were all wasted! Elvis picture looks as if it was taken during his downward spiral with drugs and alcohol.

I noticed the same thing but I viewed the changing photos as representations of the characters. In the first scene the image was of the younger Elvis and it reminded me of purity and the young couple had such an optimism about their trip. The second scene was the Elvis in his prime and the woman seemed to be coming into herself as she was getting over the death of her husband. The last Elvis photo was old, worn and it was of aging Elvis before he died. The tatterd painting was a mirrow image of the men with all of their problems.
